Brunch

There are quite a few Brits living in the Mayenne. As I have noted before, some locals are failing to take full advantage of this happy situation. On the other hand, the lady who runs our local catering college is on the ball. Once per year, she organises an English brunch.

The idea is to give her students an insight into what might go into this special meal, and to give them practice in speaking English. They are only allowed to speak to us in English, and we are expected to respond likewise.

It's great. They get to practice their catering and English language skills in one go, and we get to enjoy a special breakfast/lunch meal. My only regret is not being able to sample all the things on show (a small fraction being shown here). And they even had today's English language newspapers (The Guardian and the International Herald Tribune). And all you can eat for 8 euros 50, which won't get you a couple of croissants and a coffee in some places. Just fantastic!

Wow that looks great. What did you actually eat?

This really is fantastic. I love the napkin fold, like a crown. All that food, oh my... how did you ever choose what to eat!

It was difficult to choose what to eat. But I started with a small fruit cocktail, followed by a selection of mini pastries: a croissant, a pain au chocolat (a kind of cylindrical croissant with rods of chocolate through it) and a pain au raisin (a thin spiral of pastry with raisins in) alongside some coffee. These things you will see arranged into a square on the right had side of the picture with two cooks in it.

After that I went for the hot dishes which were bacon, black pudding, baked beans, grilled tomatoes, sausage, mushrooms with beautifully scrambled eggs. (with coffee)

And after that I had one of the excellent jelly and red fruit cups, rather like the ones in the second picture (but smaller).

And I didn't touch the cold buffet, which is a shame. I was too full.

Poor Codgi - no space for cold buffet. You do indeed endure hardship!

Looks fantastic, I'm most jealous! Though I have to protest at pain au chocolat and croissants being served at an English brunch, even though I am partial to both (and would prefer them to a fry-up)!

I cannot stand this! I haven't had breakfast yet and I want to jump through the computer screen and have a croissant. Or two. Maybe some fruit....oh my. Just oh my.
It looks too beautiful to eat.

Your life is, indeed, very difficult.
