Dona Nobis Pacem

Today is the blogblast for peace, and here is my peace globe. I'm flying this in solidarity with the other bloggers around the world, trying to get a message of peace across to anyone who will listen.

Lots of people will tell you that they desire peace and that they are fundamentally pacifist. Fine. But most will also admit that they would take up arms on the side of Good to oppose the forces of Evil. So be careful, it's amazing what can be done with propaganda.

  1. The French, to their credit, have been very careful to keep out of conflicts in recent years. When you've had your own country overrun by foreign troops in living memory I suppose it makes you less inclined to go and do it to someone else.

Boys will keep poking a stick in the hornets' nest until they get badly enough stung.

  2. There is also a very different attitude here to town twinning. The guy who set up the twinning between St Suzanne and Sulzheim was made to work on a farm in Sulzheim as a prisoner of war. He made friends with the farm owners who treated him like a human being, and when the twinning was set up as an attempt to heal the wounds, he twinned his town of St Suzanne with theirs of Sulzheim.

  3. Good and evil are such slippery concepts, and every person believes they know them absolutely. The trouble is we don't all agree on what they are. Peace is the only answer.

I believe in PEACE, but also believe that those who spread tyranny need to be put down to achieve the PEACE

  6. Peace is the only way. Understanding is precious...

Words are mightier than the sword... let us converse and listen to each other, so tyrants and Evil never grasp hold of any heart.
A shift to a culture is Peace is LONG overdue.

    Salutations du Québec!

  7. Very true... and yet I'm glad we didn't sit out of WWII.

It's all very complicated, but I do think understanding is the answer.

  10. That is true, it's a short distance between wishing for peace and taking up arms to defend what one things is "good". Hopefully we learn to lean more towards the former...

I agree with Marilyn. It would be a very different world if we had stayed home in 1944.

Not all wars are honorable. Wars are brought on by old men to be fought by young men. Most of which are very honorable.

I think no one prays for peace more than a soldier.

I've also noticed that old soldiers never start wars.
