Project - intermission

A real intermission this time. The mason and his team came to pour the concrete floor and discovered that there is not enough depth in the centre of the room, so they refused to pour it. Quite right. I don't want my floor and tiles cracking up in a year's time. So the plumber is coming back to lift the tubes and insulation and chisel out a greater depth of floor.

Meanwhile of course the place is still a tip, and still freezing. Good job the weather has been mild.

  1. Mild? Mild? Must be a continental thing.

  2. Oh my, this is the kind of stuff that happens to me.

What is the circular structure doing? Are you planning a platform of some kind?

  3. Well I figure that cold is below freezing. At the moment we have 6 or 7 degrees - that's mild.

Eloh - the structure is to hold in place the curved plywood that you can see. The plywood defines the edge of a step, and is there to stop the liquid concrete running over the edge.

  4. You have my deepest sympathy. (I'd post about my gradually emerging studio but it's too depressing to contemplate.) It will be so much teh better in the end and well worth getting right.

  5. Poor you, building projects never seem to run smoothly. I hope they get their act together soon!

  6. Yes, I see what you mean about mild....any improvement on what this winter has thrown at France is welcome.
Good luck with getting the whole thing redone....you have the sympathy of one whose builders stripped out the insulation before christmas one year, leaving only the slates between us and minus 11.

  7. Hello fly, yes, when they installed my boiler some years ago, it operated for the first winter without any insulation around the miles of pipes in the boiler room. I think I was personally responsible for all the global warming that year. But at least it wasn't my house....
