Masquerade climbing rose

I've had the climbing rose Masquerade against a wall of both my current and previous house, so all-in-all that's about 25 years.  I like the way it changes colour, from a clear yellow with a flash of pink in the bud, to a dark red during the last throes of flowering.

It can look from a distance as if there are three different-coloured roses climbing up the wall - very effective, I like it a lot.

  1. I like that rose. My other favourite climber is Madame Zepherine Drouin, which is an old rose and not disease resistant, but I had on my previous house for 30 years.

  2. Tim, I bought Zepherine Drouin on the basis of your (and another reader's) opinion, last year. It is starting to establish itself, but is still quite small. Flowers are lovely though.

  3. I knew we'd spoken about it. Loads of manure. Pelleted chicken poo works well.

  4. What a lovely rose :-)

It reminds me of my patio rose 'strawberries and cream' which changes colour as the blooms progress and eventually fall...
