The mirabelle is a type of plum, slightly larger than the tip of a thumb, and yellow in colour. It has a superb, distinct, sweet flavour, and if you eat it straight off the tree it tastes of honey. I'm lucky to have some trees in the garden and they are covered in white blossoms right now. I'm hoping that this indicates a big future harvest.
We have a Mirabelle tree too - I must make jam from them.
ReplyDeleteThe blossoms are full of potential. I hope you have a good harvest :-)
ReplyDeleteNice. Is that your off street parking in the foreground?
ReplyDeleteYes Mark W, that's a bit of our off-street parking
ReplyDeleteI used to rent a house near Duras in Lot-et-Garonne where the neighbouring farmer had a plum orchard. I was horrified when it came to the harvest to see him using a device attached to his tractor that encircled each tree with frame holding a canvas sheet and shook the tree to cause the plums to fall into the sheet. Countless plums fell onto the floor and were just left there. I can only conclude that they did not taste as good as your mirabelles.
