Drunken butterflies

My plum tree has shed more plums that I can possibly use, and many are now fermenting happily on the ground, attracting wasps and butterflies.

Here is a pic of some fermenting plums, and one butterfly, a red admiral. I am sure it must have been drunk because it didn't move at all while I was trying to photograph it. All the other ones moved about a lot, their most annoying habit being to close their wings tight as soon as they stopped moving.

That's a fabulous photo of the red admiral, I love the contrast against the lichen and the tree trunk.

I can not remember the last time I saw a red admiral.
In fact I think your drunken one is the only one I have seen all summer.
Nice to know you are entertaining the French wildlife, lol

much love,

Butterflies do get drunk - of a sort. In tropical countries, where there is still a trade on them, they catch butterflies using rotten fruit placed under nets
